I received a newsletter today (FEB.12/2010) from Foreign Affairs (www.foreignaffairs.com), one of the most respected publications in the world. The first topic was “THE HAMAS CONUNDRUM” a text written by MICHAEL HERZOG (a Brigadier General in the Israel Defense Forces, is a special emissary to the Israeli Prime Minister and Minister of Defense for the Middle East peace process. He served as Chief of Staff to the Israeli Minister of Defense from 2006 to 2009 and was a Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy from 2004 to 2006.).

With all this background, I don’t have to say that the arcticle wasn’t exactly impartial, but it was one sided all the time. So I’ll write some opinions I find relevant for this discussion. Mr Herzog claims that Hamas had time to prove itself democractic and change its behaviour according to international laws and the so-called “democracy”, following the countries blessed by God like U.S. / U.E. / Israel.

This is Mr Herzog’s opinion about the last operation (onslaught) that Israel conducted in 2009.

Eventually, in December 2008, this rocket fire provoked Israel to launch Operation Cast Lead, a massive military operation in Gaza. It dealt a crippling blow to Hamas and deterred further rocket fire: whereas 7,000 rockets and mortar shells were fired into Israel in the three years before the operation, only about 300 were fired in the 12 months following January 2009, as Hamas has enforced a near-total cease-fire since Operation Cast Lead ended that month.

To show my point here, I didn’t see in his text any mention to the thousands of deaths and the civillians killed. Also, this is not my blog talking, it is the U.N. report named “Goldstone” that tell us the tale of WHITE PHOSPHORUS weapons, which Israel had the idea to use on civillians. Hundreds of Thousands burned in the hell created by the own people who suffered the Holocaust. Paradoxal in my mind, and I’m sure it is messing with yours too.

In other part of his arcticle, our Brigadier General is misunderstanding his own position:

Reaching a temporary cease-fire with Israel and claiming willingness to accept a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders is no true sign of moderation when Hamas is simultaneously building its arsenal and treating terrorism as a tactical tool. “Hamas will never give up the option of resistance,” the Hamas political chief Khaled Mashal stated at a rally last month, “no matter how long it takes.

I really think that Hamas position of accepting the negotiations with Israel by achieving a Palestinian State on 1967 borders is a clear demonstration of its position. But what Mr Herzog “forgot” to mention, is that Israel never accepted this idea and is still building new camps and houses for it’s own people on what should be recognized as a Palestinian State. So, if Hamas won’t give up the resistance option, it is justified on the same basis as why Israel will never stop to pushing palestinians to hell, it is because of a security dilemma that will only end by the building of Palestinian State.

Maybe the problem isn’t Hamas. The problem is a full armed Hamas against a full armed Israel which looks only for spreading bloodshed instead of a CLEAR negotiation on the table. After all, what will they do with its people leaving on Palestinian soil? Israel is running out of options and this is the side Mr Herzog is forgetting to considerate. If you call yourself democratic, and start to kill people around you, than Saddan Hussein, Hitler, Stálin, Bush, everybody was democratic as hell.

The path to hell is inviting the Middle-East for a dance, let’s see who will survive. It is a shame on International Community that nobody is doing their best to achieve peace, but their best minds are looking for war.
